Spain with salt on your skin

There's a blue waiting for you.

Several ways to escape to the coast. Choose by the trip you want, then check the specific beach.

The beach isn't just one plan

Towel, stroll
or both?

A wild cove, a bay next to the village and a town beach each need different preparation. Decide how far you want to walk, what facilities you need and whether you'd like a stroll afterwards.

Your way to the sea.

If you're after…Start withWhat to check
A white village and the Mediterranean Cadaqués ↗ Access to the cove, parking and wind. Not every beach has fine sand.
Green hills, a town and beaches Llanes ↗ Flags, the access path and facilities at your chosen beach.
A fishing village and a coast with character Cudillero ↗ Steps and a pebble beach at Gavieiro; alternatives if the sea won't cooperate.
Lava, coves and a few extra days Lanzarote ↗ Wind, distances between areas and access conditions for protected areas.
A city open to the Atlantic Cádiz ↗ The levante (easterly) wind and sea conditions. The town beaches have facilities but fill up in summer.
Long beaches, dunes and wind Fuerteventura ↗ Wind, swell and currents. Many beaches have no facilities or shade.
A well-planned beach day

Four things.
Then just enjoy it.

  1. Choose by the access. Look at how you really get there, the terrain and the way back.
  2. Check the day. Forecast, flags and local warnings before you go in the water.
  3. Bring what you won't find. Water, sun protection and a bag for your rubbish when there are no facilities.
  4. Respect the place. Marked paths, pet rules and space for the people who live there.

What you're probably wondering.

Which coast should I choose for a beach getaway?+

Cadaqués suits you if you want to combine village strolls with the Mediterranean; Llanes and Cudillero if you'd rather alternate green hills with the Cantabrian coast; Lanzarote and Fuerteventura if you're after beaches and volcanic scenery with more days to spare; Cádiz if you fancy a city by the open sea. Choosing a specific beach depends on access, facilities and sea conditions.

Can I take my dog to these beaches?+

You can't generalise by destination. Check the rules for each beach on your exact dates and have another walk in mind if access is restricted.

Is a cove sheltered from the wind safe for swimming?+

Not necessarily. Check the flags, the swell and local guidance. A photo or an editorial recommendation doesn't tell you what the sea will be like on the day you visit.
