4-day route · Canary Islands

Canary Islands in 4 days

Two neighbouring islands, one ferry and Isla de Lobos. What to see each day, what to book before you go and where to sleep each night.

4 days 3 nights Playa Blanca and Corralejo
Quick answer

Can you see Lanzarote and Fuerteventura in 4 days?

Yes, if you sleep two nights in Playa Blanca (Lanzarote) and one in Corralejo (Fuerteventura). Days 1 and 2 are for Lanzarote, day 3 starts with the ferry and day 4 is for Isla de Lobos.

Before you go, buy your time slot for the Montañas del Fuego and the Cueva de los Verdes and apply for the Lobos permit: these are the three things you should not leave until the last minute.

Before you go

What to book before you go

  • Montañas del Fuego (Timanfaya). Tickets are sold online only, for the time slot you choose when you buy. Arrive 15 minutes early: outside your time slot the ticket is no longer valid, and there are no changes or refunds.
  • Cueva de los Verdes. Also online only, with a date and time. Arrive 15 minutes early.
  • Isla de Lobos permit. The Cabildo de Fuerteventura issues it online, for one day and one time slot: 10:00 to 14:00 or 14:00 to 18:00. Each application allows up to three permits, the boat ticket is bought separately and the permit can be shown printed or with the QR code. The island admits 200 visitors at a time. Check the Cabildo's website to see how many days ahead each date opens.
  • Jameos del Agua, Mirador del Río and Jardín de Cactus. They do not require a date or time, but the centre recommends buying your ticket online before you go and downloading the QR code, because mobile coverage can fail.

Conditions, opening hours and tickets change: confirm them on each centre's official website before you go.

Day by day

What to do each day

DAY 01

Timanfaya and the south coast

If you land in the morning, do not buy the Montañas del Fuego time slot too close to your arrival: luggage and picking up the car also take time. The visit, including the Ruta de los Volcanes by bus (about 40 minutes), takes around 1 h 15 min in total.

Then Los Hervideros (basalt cliffs with caves and blowholes) and El Golfo, a crater open to the sea with the Charco de los Clicos. There is no official visit time for these two, so leave some margin. If you have the afternoon free, the Papagayo coves are nearby: anyone who does not live in Lanzarote pays for access, by card only, according to Yaiza Town Council.

Where to sleep (nights 1 and 2). Playa Blanca is the base on the south coast, close to the Papagayo coves, and the ferry to Fuerteventura leaves from there. Bus lines 61, 161 and 162 link the airport with Playa Blanca (Aena). Allow for the transfer north so you do not chain too many visits on the same day.

Where to stay in Playa Blanca

Once you have chosen your base, check availability, cancellation terms and prices for your dates on Booking.com. What you see there depends on the dates you search.

DAY 02

Northern Lanzarote

The north fits into one day if you add nothing else. Mirador del Río, 45 minutes. Cueva de los Verdes, about 50 minutes with a guide. Jameos del Agua, 1 hour. Jardín de Cactus, 1 hour. That adds up to 3 h 35 min of visiting, not counting the journeys: check the driving time between Playa Blanca and the north on your navigation app. If it is a Sunday, swap one of the visits for the Teguise market.

Cueva de los Verdes and Jameos del Agua are sections of the same lava tube. The cave has stairs and low ceilings, and does not allow pushchairs or pets. Do not stack timed visits without leaving time to get between them. You go back to sleep in Playa Blanca.

DAY 03

From the ferry to the dunes

Cross from Playa Blanca to Corralejo by boat. The crossing takes 25 to 35 minutes depending on the operator and the vessel, and is run by Fred. Olsen Express, Naviera Armas and Líneas Romero, among others. Check the schedules on each operator's website when you choose the day and, if you cross with a car, confirm that the vessel takes it.

With the afternoon free, walk the Corralejo dunes, a natural park in the municipality of La Oliva with pale sand dunes next to the sea. There is no shade: take water and a hat, and check the wind before choosing which stretch of beach to walk. Mid-afternoon is best, when the sun is less strong. No booking is listed for the dunes.

Where to sleep (night 3). Corralejo is the most convenient base in the north of Fuerteventura: dunes, boats to Lobos and the ferry to Lanzarote.

Where to stay in Corralejo

DAY 04

Isla de Lobos

The boat to Lobos leaves from the port of Corralejo and takes about 15 minutes. The 7.4 km circular trail takes about 2 hours and passes La Caldera, the Martiño lighthouse and El Puertito. You cannot land without the Cabildo's permit, and the boat ticket is bought separately.

If your flight leaves that same day, choose the 10:00 to 14:00 slot and bear in mind that Fuerteventura airport is about 36 km from Corralejo. If you prefer Lobos on the afternoon of day 3 (14:00 to 18:00 slot), cross from Playa Blanca to Corralejo in the morning; check the boat schedules first and apply for the permit once you have them clear.

Outbound and return flights

Aena lists direct flights to Lanzarote from Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, Bilbao and Valencia, and to Fuerteventura from Madrid, Barcelona, Seville and Bilbao. The most convenient option is to fly into Lanzarote and out of Fuerteventura. If you are leaving from Valencia, there is no direct flight to Fuerteventura: cross back on the ferry from Corralejo to Playa Blanca and fly out of Lanzarote.

Airport transfer

If you arrive by plane, you can book a private or shared transfer from the airport to your accommodation in advance. Options, schedules and prices are on the SunTransfers website.

A one-island alternative: Tenerife

If you would rather not cross between islands, Tenerife works in 4 days: Teide, the north with Garachico, Teno and Masca, and the Anaga Massif. Two things are worth arranging in advance.

Teide summit: the walk up the Telesforo Bravo trail, from La Rambleta to the top, needs a named permit processed through Tenerife ON. According to the Cabildo (15 October 2026), it is paid for by anyone who does not live in Tenerife; island residents and children under 14 do not pay. The cable car ticket is bought separately and, without a permit, you cannot go up to the summit.

The Masca gorge: entry is compulsory, personal and non-transferable, with 25 places every 30 minutes in sessions from 8:30 to 13:00. You must go up on the shared transport from Santiago del Teide, private vehicles are not allowed, and the return boat ticket is bought separately. Children are admitted from age 8. Access is still in a pilot phase: check caminobarrancodemasca.com for available days and conditions before booking.
